Bert and Ernie. BFF's
there seems to be a lot of confusion between what is a muppet and what is a puppet.. Bert and Ernie are puppets not muppets... and as for this petition stating they should "come out" as married gay lovers on Sesame Street after all these years... WTF is wrong with you?!.. For one they are best friends and roommates and have been such for over 30 years... and two, I dont think kids just learning their 1,2,3's and A,B,C's need to learn about gay marriage quite yet. Gosh.

Vancouver Riot.. Wake up call.
June 15th 2011 is a day I will not soon forget. Our Canucks lose the Stanley Cup in game 7.. A devastating riot occurs in downtown Vancouver.. and the mark of 2 years to the day that I had not had a drink.. In my life this did not all occur in one night for no reason... The old me would have been curious about the chaos and maybe even joined in.. allowing myself to give in to the sheepish follower mentality who didn't do anything technically criminal, but certainly were guilty of taking it all in as entertainment.. After witnessing the terror and destruction unleashed on my city, I couldn't help but notice one common theme.
Alcohol and Anger...
The two go hand in hand, and that's a fact. After the crowd finally dispersed and we were allowed to re-enter the city I walked around seeing the destruction, feeling the still lingering tension and fear in the air.. seeing the mortified, exhausted, long faces of all of our emergency responders, some still in hazmat or riot gear... the putrid smell of burning garbage, mixed with the occasional wall of scent of strong perfume and cologne which had been smashed outside department stores... the air holding onto the tear gas which was still burning your eyes and throat.. the sound of crunching glass with every step you took.. the sounds of multiple choppers flying overhead shining spotlights down on the streets looking for looters and vandals.. seeing the trails of blood on the ground from those who had been either innocently or deservingly injured.. it was completely surreal.. I thought I was walking through a hot movie set.. But I wasn't.. and reality kicked in.. and I realized a few things right then.
I am where I am supposed to be right now in my life.. regardless of the rough roads which lead me to this point I am at this moment fulfilling my calling. I am leading a path to hopefully help establish some future security in the mental health and well being of our society.. That with each person, I am contributing to help restore our community for future generations to be able to grow up with some mentorship and positive influence in their lives.. I have the clarity today to see that there are so many people who fall victim to the tragic life drugs and alcohol, and this event is an exact example of where the behaviour can lead.. the only reason I have this clarity is because I had to walk my own path down that road.. I may not have been a vandalizing criminal my entire life, but I sure had my moments once upon a time.. But this is one thing I now know for sure, I may not have been able to do anything to stop what happened during the riot.. and there is of course a lot more to be said about what happened then I can cover right now.. but my part in this is that I can continue contributing part of each day of my life moving forward toward providing a solution for some of these people.. Instead of hating them for what they've done, I feel empathy for them.. Their lives cannot be very tolerable if this is the demonstration of behaviour of the feelings they are harbouring inside.. Instead of writing them off as douchebag scum, I see them as vulnerable tortured souls who really just need some serious help.. This is not an end all solution of course, and this is a society that will never be totally obsolete.. but one can hope that in time, by educating humanity, some of this will be resolved.. and more people will be able to live with new peace in their lives instead of destruction in their hearts. If one doesn't dream and believe, then it may never become a reality.. so for the record, right now, I believe.

We don't know just how good we've got it...
We often don't realize how tiny the microcosm we live in is until people either enter or exit our lives due to greater realities of the world.. Jasmine (Mozhdah) and I met in 2004 while in school at BCIT for broadcast journalism.. We became close friends almost instantly, both sharing a passion to use our dominating uniqueness and ambition to contribute to the world in some small way.. I knew from day one she would go on to do greater things than even she could ever imagine.. I am so proud of what she stands for today, she risks her life every minute of each day to do her part to educate Afghanistan's people through the media in hopes that by securing their future it will help secure the safety and future of the entire North American Nation...
She is one person, with one incredible goal, and she is literally transforming our world... Please consider my dear friend in your prayers and help to keep her safe, her life is literally at risk everyday because of the Taliban. This is not a joke... Today I am proud to be a Canadian, to be able to speak, live and dream anything my heart desires.. But I am even more proud of Mozhdah for sacrificing her own fought freedom to return to her homeland of Kabul, Afghanistan to help pave the road to freedom for future Afghan generations. <3

Relevant thoughts... or not.. your choice!
We are often faced with challenges and times in our life where heavy reflection seems forced upon us.. Some of us turn to negative means of distraction, while others take time to seek out the truth or lesson in an unfortunate situation.. As fun as it is to go get shit-faced and try to forget whatever the current mishap is, I don't...I turn to music..art..writing..poetry..quotations.. Irving Layton is one of the amazing authors I've started to recently follow.. And he's Canadian, which makes him even more awesome..If you've never read his stuff, I highly recommend you go out and do so..
Over the years I have collected some of the quotes I've come across.. Ones that stuck with me and I felt were quite powerful... call me cheesy or whatever you want.. truth is I've never been one to really give a shit what people think about me! I'm eccentric and odd...and truthfully I like it that way. It used to bother me being constantly described as "a unique individual"... But now I embrace it and see it as a positive.. I mean shit, at least I'm not boring!
Anyhow.. take away from these whatever you like.. The choice is always yours..
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us."
"We shall draw from the heart of suffering itself the means of inspiration and survival."
"Everything will be alright in the end, if it’s not alright, then it’s not the end."
"You don’t get to choose how you’re going to die. Or when. You can only decide how you’re going to live."
"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all."
"No man or woman is worth your tears."
"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
"You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it."
"A goal is a dream with a deadline."
"There are two primary choices in life; to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them."
"Life is simple, its just not easy."
One Love.

Dear God.
Dear God,
I know I don't pray as much as I should, but today I want to share how I am grateful for a lot of things... you know, like all the important things like my health and my family and friend's well being, a roof over my head, food on the table, etc.. but I also want to thank you for some real simple stuff too.. Things that I really couldn't survive without, such as: Music...and shoes.. and make-up.. and for making a cartoon movie about surfing penguins.. I'm also a big fan of your purple Skittles.. Oh and I thought it was genius how you made little boy boxer briefs but for girls, seriously you rock! And I'm very grateful for the Mac Lipglass color Plus Luxe, love it! I know you are supposed to be a man, but I find it hard to believe a man could come up with such a great glossy shade of pink without being too sparkley.. Hmm? Anyways.. I also would like to thank you for the blackberry.. mine is actually surgically implanted into my left hand so I'll never lose it.. and for Vans sneakers.. you know the all-black ones.. and for Crystal Light slurpees.. um yes, truly brilliant! also the sugar free goodness of Rockstar Burner! for kitties and for my babydog, she is the light of my life.. for 24 hour facial tinted moisturizer.. For snowboarding, and sunsets.. And definitely for Spell Check.. ha! For multi vitamins.. and for plastic surgery.. for Pink Sugar perfume.. and for those little cinnamon hearts you get at Valentines...also thank you for tiger balm, the clear kind that doesn't stain your skin and clothes orange.. and for ipod.. for tea lights.. and especially for tattoos...Andddd last but not least, ice cream.. not that fake crap, the real stuff.. no calories spared my friend!!
Soo.. umm. yea...
Thank you.. and uh, keep rocking in the free world...
Amen.

Hot Chick Discount.
The other night I went out for dinner with a girlfriend.. It's been a long while since I have been out to eat, as I have been on a strict training diet for what seems like the last 50 years... We decide to go to one of my absolute fav spots, which turns out my gf has never been to before.
We get there.. Find rockstar parking.. Order up some drinks and a few different super yummy dishes.. Our service is amazing.. You know when you get a waitress who is totally normal and down to earth and doesn't put on an annoying fake "I love my job, tip me good" show and is just sincere and nice... well that's the girl we got..plus she had some great ink and was super cute, so she got bonus points for style in my books..
Our food was incredible... and our tummies are really full.. when our rockstar waitress asks us about dessert. We talk about the wicked desserts they have there.. one being the must have deep fried mars bar with chocolate syrup, ice cream, and whip cream.. yes. Heaven. But we decide against it because we are apparently too full..
Five minutes later, over comes our waitress.. with a deep fried mars bar dish in hand... for us to share, on the house! Because we are no fools, obviously we eat it... and love every bite and somehow seem to forget that we were full only moments before.. at this point my gf is dying and can't believe she has never been to this place before.. I am happy.. full of sushi, deep fried chocolatey goodness with ice cream, and gin.. And I am in the company of one of my most adored beautiful friends.. It couldn't have been better.. until our bill came.
This wasn't any ordinary bill, our bill was special.. You are probably wondering how can a bill be special, but let me tell you it was... At the bottom of our bill was a discount.. it wasn't much, I think maybe 5%.. but what it was called completely made my night.. We had received a "Hot Chick Discount" on our dinner and drinks!! Hilarious..
The owner of this place certainly knows how to keep the ladies coming back for more.. Hire awesome nice waitresses, have the best sushi in town (bar none), serve up free dessert straight from Heaven, and then give you a discount for being hot..
Now that is my kind of place!
